In addition to making furniture for sale, I build various custom things for whatever someone needs. Today I am finishing a stair railing that runs from halfway up a staircase, to a landing, and then turns left to go up another 5 stairs.
Designing this and putting it together was a real challenge, all joints being glued and pegged. But for my very last joint I found an unusual helper in the other room – a camera tripod!
This is a Manfroto tripod with a ball head and Arca camera mount. I could raise and lower the center post, adjust the ball head to be aligned parallel in the x-y dimensions, then finally tilt the Arca mount to match the railing angle z-direction. This held my piece in place until I could clamp it.
It came out real nice and my customer loved it!
